Record-breaking six times recipient from her Tony Awards, two Grammy Awards, and an Emmy Award she received in the year 2015 by Barack Obama. Born into a musical family McDonald lived living in Fresno California and received her classical vocal training at New York's Juilliard School. In 2017, she also was the first to make her West End London West End debut, and was nominated to receive the Olivier Award. The actress also broke the record for the having the most awards received by one actor. Her other credits for theater includes The Secret Garden (1993) Marie Christine (1999) Henry IV (2004) 110 in the Shade (2007) Twelfth Night (2009) in which she made the release of her Public Theater Shakespeare in the Park debut show, Shuffle Along or the Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed (2016) Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune (2019) as well as Ohio State Murders (2023). McDonald's first appearance as a dramatic TV actor was in the Peabody Award-winning CBS show Having Our Say The Delany SistersThe first 100 years. Following her appearance with Kathy Bates, Victor Garber as well as others in the critically famous Disney/ABC version of Annie in 1999, McDonald appeared as been a regular character in the network's Law & Order Special Victims Unit. McDonald first played U.S. lawyer Liz Lawrence (now Liz Reddick), in the CBS Legal thriller The Good Wife, in the year 2009. In the present, she is an actor in Julian Fellowes' period film The Gilded Age.
